Street food has become incredibly popular lately. Why wouldn’t it? It’s cheap, portable, and you don’t have to sit down in a restaurant to get it. Where should you go if you love street food? I’m glad you asked, because here are our four of our favorite places for street food in the world:
Bangkok is the street food Mecca. There is no other way to put it. If you want the best street food in the world, you need to take a flight to Bangkok. It is one of the only cities in the world where you can have a delicious meal, for just the change in your pocket.
If you do decide to take the flight and make your way over to Bangkok, head over to the Old City, also known as Rattanakosin. There, they have some of the best traditional Thai street food in the world at the various restaurants and stalls. Considering trying some authentic Pad Thai (a traditional Thai stir fry with rice noodles) while you are there, you won’t regret it!Average Cost Per Meal: $2-$4
New York City, New York
New York City has to be one of the most iconic places for street food. There’s nothing like getting a fresh Sabrett hot dog, or a steaming hot pretzel from one of the food carts that are on nearly every street corner in Midtown Manhattan. Not into hot dogs and pretzels? Don’t worry! There are also food trucks that serve up incredible street food!
You can find nearly anything to eat at a food truck. From classic American food, to authentic Indian food, they have it all. This means that even the pickiest of eaters can find something to eat at a food truck! A fan favorite is the Wafels & Dinges truck, which serves up delicious, authentic Belgian Waffles! Pro Tip: If you are having a hard time finding the truck that you want to eat at, try to find it on Facebook or Twitter, as it’s daily location will typically be announced there!Average Cost Per Meal: Food carts: $5-$7, Food trucks: $10-$15
It’s a little off the beaten path, but Colombia has some seriously delicious street food. The El Rodadero area in Santa Marta combines some of Colombia’s best street food with a laid back beach town vibe. Once you get off the beach, take to the streets and get some Colombian favorites, like Empanadas (tasty, fried pouches of meat, cheese, and/or vegetables) and Arepas (Flat, crispy cakes, made from corn flour)Average Cost Per Meal: $3-$5
Kowloon, Hong Kong
Kowloon may be at the bottom of this list, but their street food can stand toe-to-toe with any other street food on this list. Kowloon has some of the most delicious and interesting street food on the planet, but if you are looking for the best of the best in Kowloon, you will have to journey over to Mong Kok. From Siu Mai (similar to their beloved counterpart Dim Sum) to Eggettes (Recently popularized by ice cream shops in NYC, these waffle lookalikes pack some serious taste!), they have it all, and you will want to eat it all!
